We cover some of our favourite Canon L-series and Sony G Master lenses, along with Marty's dronehack

We chat about:

  • Why lens choice can completely change the look of a shoot
  • Our go-to focal lengths and when we use them
  • Canon L-series vs Sony G Master lenses
  • Balancing image quality, portability and practicality
  • What gear actually earns its place in the bag
  • The equipment we reach for most on real jobs This episode is less about specs and more about real-world use — the gear we trust, the compromises we make, and what works for the type of content we create.

If you're into photography, filmmaking, drones or camera gear, this one should be right up your alley. Seeking Focus – Episode 58 🎧 Our Lenses & Drones

We break down how we use it to lift and carry massive 19m x 9m advertising flags, what goes into planning these shoots, and the challenges that come with operating at that scale — from safety and logistics to getting the perfect shot.

But this episode isn’t just about the drone. We also take it back to the beginning — how we got started, what pushed us into FPV and aerial work, and the moments that shaped where we are now. It’s a mix of technical insight and personal reflection, giving you a real look behind the scenes of building something in this space.

Curtis is self-taught filmmaker & video producer who established the 'CREED' business name at 14 years of age and has continued it ever since. Since running his business and also graduating an Associate Degree of Film, his love for visual arts, working with others and cinematic storytelling has grown beyond measure. In the last number of years he's developed a deep passion for working with school communities. Whether it's to enhance their marketing or capture an event, he loves working with students and staff and would be thrilled to work with your college.

In October of 2023, CREED Media was proud to have accomplished its first ever feature length film; a documentary called 'ACCent on Music'. In partnership with the Associated Catholic Colleges, this story follows the logistical nightmare of coordinating 600 students from 13 secondary schools to perform a combined concert at Hamer Hall. This production was pitched in February of 2020 and eventually commenced its first day of shooting May of 2022.

26 days and 83 interviews later, the film entered its post-production season which lasted nearly exactly a year due to the ever-changing landscape of the story with no pre-written script to follow.

In today’s episode we take an in-depth look at the features of Canon’s ground breaking RF 24-105 f2.8L IS USM Z lens, a first of its kind, and provide a hands on long term review.

We look at the various features – both standard across the L series and unique to this lens, consider who the lens is best suited to (photographer, videographer or both), consider the value of the motorised power zoom adapter PZ-E2/PZ-E2B accessory, contrast the weight, and look at some potential issues like vignetting in contrast to the benefits like ultra-fast focus for tracking subjects with minimal noise.

Is this lens right for you? Is it enough to make Marty sell his Sony and move back to Canon? Take a listen and you decide – you might just be surprised.

]]> We are back again after an extended hiatus, with Episode 22 in which we discuss all things ‘Lens’.

We begin by reviewing the different types of lenses available (primes, zooms, macros, fish eye, probe, anamorphic); discuss the variety of brands available; review the DZO Pictor 20-55 par focal; compare the differences in quality of lenses (kit, mid-range prosumer, and pro series); contrast still to cine lenses and discuss the difference between F and T stops; consider the quality of various brands and the impact each brand has on picture quality; and finish off by discussing our favourite lenses for a variety of situations.

If you ever had a lens related questions – chances are you will find the answers you seek within this episode.

The exhibit is housed within the upper levels of Melbourne’s iconic and heritage listed Flinder Street Station, including the mystical Ballroom.

The audio was recorded live using the Rode GO II wireless TX (transmitter only) units.

Cycloramas were giant 360-degree paintings that were mounted inside large purpose built circular buildings. These paintings were generally recreations of historical events such as famous battles.

Cycloramas emerged in the 1700s and became a popular in Australia between 1889-1906 before cinema rendered them obsolete.

In Melbourne there were at least two such buildings – one on Victoria Parade, Fitzroy (now St Vincent’s hospital) and the other built in 1891 between Portland lane and little Collins st (now Georges Apartments). This building’s structure still remains, and is visible when viewing it from directly above.

Welcome to another edition of Seeking Focus with your hosts Marty and Evan.

If you have ever considered purchasing a wireless video transmission system for your video work flow, then this episode is for you.

This fortnight we review Accsoon’s exciting and latest offering – the Cineview SE SDI/HDMI 365m wireless video transmission system, supplied for review once again by Videoguys Australia (www.videoguys.com.au) and Accsoon Australia.

We assess the HE unit’s transmission range, transmission frequency, latency, software, paring and multiple point connections, price point, construction, fan noise, and other aspects – then summaries the pros and cons. We also compare the three variations of the CineView (SE, HE & QUAD) to Acsoon’s earlier CineEye 2 Pro, and to the Hollyland MARS 300 PRO as reference points, and to assist in providing a balanced review.

Many thanks to Videoguys Australia for their ongoing support.
